Kromvikvegen and Falkeriset, Rauland
A panoramic view of Hardangervidda! A road (12 km) and a short hike (1,5 km) to the mountain plateau from the south.
The road from Raulandsgrend to Kromviki by the Møstvatn lake passes through an open landscape of birch trees and marshes. Along the way you will see the magnificent Rauland Mountain and Eggeflott. The majestic Gaustatoppen appears in the north-east. At the end of the road lies the Møsvatn lake and the mountain farm Kromviki, beautifully located on an island.
A short hike with a panoramic view
Approximately 1 km before Kromviki, you will find the path to Falkeriset (1096 meters). At the top there are great views of the Hardangervidda National Park. If you are lucky, a herd of wild reindeer may appear in the snow far in the west. You will get to Falkeriset easily by a 1,5 km long stone path that twists through the birch wood and up the mountainside.
How to get to Kromvikvegen and Falkeriset
From the centre of Rauland: follow the rv 362 in the direction of Haukeli. After 4 km, take the right-hand exit in the direction of Kromviki. Follow the gravel track Kromvikvegen for 11 km to a large parking area on the left-hand side. Free parking. This is the start of the journey to Falkeriset that is marked by an information board and a stone staircase. If you continue for 1 km by car in the direction of the Møsvatn lake, you will reach the end of the road at Kromviki.
The Kromvik road is closed during the winter due to heavy snow from October/November. It opens on 1st June.
